Governors

Welcome to our Governors Page!

Firstly, a little information about us: we are a group of dedicated volunteers who are either parents, members of staff, or members of the local community. Some of us have backgrounds in education, some in business, others work in the public or voluntary sector. We are organised into 2 committees- Finance, General Purposes and Personnel, plus Strategic Development and Pupil Matters.

In addition, we have a governors' monitoring committee which is linked to the School Improvement Plan, which itself is linked to the Action Plan we drew up after the last Ofsted inspection. Governors link into specific areas of school and they are listed below.

You can find documents below which tell you about some of our activities and how we go about making decisions about the running of John Clifford School.

We are committed to making John Clifford a school that children, staff and parents can all be proud of. We are keen to hear any suggestions you have, or any issues you would like to raise. You can do this by either leaving a message in the governors’ pigeon hole in the school office or, if you see any of us in the school building, or in the playground dropping off or picking up our own children, you can approach us directly. You can also email us with any questions using the relevant email addresses below.

We hope you will find the information about us useful. Again, if you have any comments about the website, please get in touch.

Thank you for taking the time to look at our part of the website.

Best wishes,

Mick Saunders
Chair of Governors

Claire Lawrence

I have lived in Beeston (and now Attenborough) since 2001 and work at the university of Nottingham in the Faculty of Science as Associate Professor in Psychology. I have two children, one doing A levels and one at nursery – so I have experience of the education system from nursery through to doctoral level. I was appointed by the FGB. I serve on the SDC Committee and I am a link governor for science. Like all governors, I attend Governing body meetings, attend working parties and training courses and visit school regularly. I have been a school governor for 5 years. It’s a role that involves working with people who all have a genuine desire to help make a difference in John Clifford, all from a variety of perspectives and with all sorts of different experiences and expertise. I’ve found governors at JC to be supportive but challenging, and I’ve seen a real willingness to look creatively at how we can make sure JC is a thriving place to learn, work and support each other.”

“I have been a parent governor now for about two years. I became a governor because I wanted to support the school and also to understand more about the school as a whole community. I have really enjoyed understanding more about the organisation of the school and the dedication of the staff.
