WALA: African Kente patterns
Your artwork for this week will be focusing on a style of African art called Kente. It follows certain mathematical or geometric 'rules' to create beautiful works of art and, often, materials that people wear too! Once you have read the information about Kente, you will be in a position to create some very simple but very effective artwork in a traditional African style.
If you have any squared paper at home, you could use that to help you, but it can equally be done on plain paper or on any other available media too- you might have chalks that you could use in your garden for example. Imagine your garden path all decorated in beautiful patterns! Or, how about using the back of a cereal box and making small tree hanging decorations coloured in? Try not just to use blank white A4 paper, and be as creative as you can!
Please check with your grown ups before decorating your whole house, though!
TASK: Read the powerpoint (below) then research other Kente patterns on the internet and then try and create your own pattern. Consider these main questions before you do it:
