Reading Home Learning
12th January 2021
Dear Children, Parents and Carers,
I hope that you are well during this time and thank you for engaging with home learning through See-Saw. It has been great to see so many of you recording yourselves reading and I know that the rest of the staff have enjoyed this too.
Due to the current school closure, we will unfortunately be unable to send home reading books. However, we have found alternative online resources and eBooks that can be accessed from home which are detailed below;
- We have been in contact with the Educational Library Service who have advised us that they have electronic copies of school reading books available through the library service website and through the Borrow Box app, more information about this service can be found here; https://www.inspireculture.org.uk/reading-information/reading/ereading/ebooks/
- The library service is also offering a click and collect service during the national lockdown. More information about this service can be found here https://www.inspireculture.org.uk/reading-information/libraries/click-and-collect-new/ .
- The Oxford Owl e-book library website offers a range of reading books which are tablet and smartphone friendly. These can be accessed by going on the following website and setting up a free parent account https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/ .
The books available on Oxford Owl are banded in the same way as school reading books, here is a helpful table to support you with finding the correct band for your child; https://primarysite-prod-sorted.s3.amazonaws.com/john-clifford-school/UploadedDocument/24af68c30a184c7b8abd3fa7671f1e7f/book-bands.png
I hope that you find these resources useful and that you can use them to continue reading at home during the school closure.
