25.3.20 Hello from Mrs Laud 😃
Mrs Laud, Mrs Pounder and Ms Bamford are thinking about all of Oak Class and we hope you are having lots of fun at home and taking care of your families. We are already looking forward to seeing you all again later this year 🙂
Oh and don't forget to make a card for Mother's Day tomorrow! 🌼
Just a reminder that all children have TT rockstars login details in the back of their reading diary, please access this at home. Thanks
The children had so much fun doing lots of experiments last week during Science week. Photos to follow. The favourite was most certainly the balloon/gas experiment which could be easily repeated at home as only requires a few household items (we used malt vinegar). Have fun! http://www.webinnate.co.uk/science/week2.htm
Today we planted sunflowers in preparation for the Summer pollination project. They will later be transferred to the school garden. The children looked great in their costumes for World Book Day yesterday, don't forget to redeem your vouchers.
This week Ms Bamford has enjoyed getting to know the class and we have kick started our topic with lots of questions about The Great Fire of London. In Maths, we have been learning how to multiply by using repeated addition and are getting really good at our 2 and 10 times tables. During Outdoor Learning, we collected and sorted materials linking to our Science focus. The children also now have their new homework grid in their communication diaries for extra (optional) activities. Have a great weekend Oak Class, well done for another fantastic week!
A reminder: please can children bring PE kits back promptly after half term (sent home to be washed). Oak Class will be learning some cricket skills on Tuesday mornings next half term. Thanks in advance.
What a fantastic Spring 1 Oak Class have had! Many of our brilliant children have received bronze, silver or gold cards to recognise their fantastic behaviour and efforts which are above and beyond green. All children now have their published story on the writing wall and we are really proud of their work (see below for an example). Last week we were also lucky to have a birthday treat which everyone enjoyed. It has been good to see many of you already trying to learn the tricky 10 spellings sent home, thank you to parents and carers for your continued support. Have a great half term everyone!
We have been working really hard to learn the story 'Handa's Surprise', using our story map to help. It includes time connectives and key descriptive language. Have a look below and see if you can use it to retell the story at home.
Please can you ensure children have full, labelled PE kits in school, including socks and outdoor shoes. See the front of reading diaries for a full list. PE is now Tuesdays and Thursdays. Thank you for your continued support.
Welcome back and Happy New Year! We are SO impressed with our superstars in Oak, who have come back ready to learn and coped so well with a fuller timetable. You will find the new optional homework grid in your child's diary. This week we've had lots of fun learning teen number words and reading 'Eat your Peas' by Kes Gray and Nick Sharratt, focusing on use of adjectives to describe food. The children particularly enjoyed deciding what it would take to persuade them to eat something they don't like, as well as how they would persuade their grown ups! There are some links below for you to try out relating to this week's topics.
Happy holidays, Happy Christmas! Thanks for all your support this term and have a lovely break. We hope you enjoy the cards and calendars, see you Tuesday 7th January.
15.12.19 Oak Class had lots of fun this week, thank you to everyone who was able to come to the performance. Don't forget party clothes in a labelled bag tomorrow please.
15.12.19 Well done to Year 1 who were amazing in the show!
Please send in costumes for the production asap (by Weds 4/12), as per the slips previously sent home which detail what is needed and whether school are providing it. We have tried to keep them as simple as possible, but please do come and speak to us if there are any issues or questions. We would love for the children to take a little bit of time this weekend to practise the songs on the main Year 1 page. They also have some great dance moves they could show you! Have a great weekend.
Christmas production rehearsals are going really well, thank you for practicing at home and keep up the great work!
This week we made rain gauges which finally collected some water on Friday! We learnt about making it a fair test. We've also been busy publishing our poems, look out for our work which will soon be displayed on our writing wall in class.
Welcome back, we hope you all had a great half term. We've been busy having parties and learning some tennis skills already, there are some free sessions at the tennis centre this weekend (see below).
We had so much fun at our tennis trial session today!
We've been busy learning about rhyming words and addition number sentences this week. Have a fantastic half term Oak class! See you all Monday 4th November 🙂
WC 7/10/19 Great to see so many of you at Parents' Eve and reading morning, thank you. Here's a few highlights from this week. We also had great fun making soup with a special chef visitor!
WC 30/9/19 We had lots of fun and learnt about our local area on our walk this week. Thank you to the parent helpers.
PARENTS' EVENING REMINDER- Monday 7th October and Wednesday 9th October
We look forward to talking to you about how your children have settled in next week. The booking system closes tomorrow lunchtime (30/9 12pm), so please do book an appointment if you haven't yet done so. Thank you
Thanks for your great attendance at reading morning and for those who are able to help on the walk next week. You will have noticed there is an optional homework grid in your child's reading diary as well as a list of Y1 statutory spellings for you to work on at home. We will also be doing spelling work through phonics, but your support is much appreciated. Please sign your child's reading diary and read 3+ times a week as this will really benefit their progress. Feel free to read/record other texts/activities from home. Below are some pictures of what we've been up to this week in Oak.
