Collective Worship about Black Lives Matter

Introduction

It is still a very important activity to continue practising Collective Worship or a time of reflection whilst some of us are at school and some of us are away from school.

Our simple acronym for prayer or reflection time will help you to think about or hope for the many different people and places that are affected by what is happening in the world. We should even think about how everything is affecting ourselves and our families too.

The acronym is based on our JC PROMISES, with each letter encouraging you to reflect or pray about something different. Our first theme was the present coronavirus pandemic we are all experiencing, and that theme for thought is still there and relevant. But, the new acronym theme for thought is all about the Black Lives Matter movement.

Over the coming weeks, accompanying the JC PROMISES acronym, are a set of photos. Some of the pictures and the stories on the news are quite hard to think about. The following famous quote will help you to look at what you see on the news or on social media differently and more positively. Use it for our new images too.

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news. My mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”

Mister Rogers

To find out more about what to do, head over to the Faith Council page. The first letter, word and photograph is here for you but, from now on, the rest will be found on the Faith Council Page.

A word for Tuesday 23rd June 2020

J is for Justice.

If people are accused of doing something wrong, they have the right to be treated fairly. This way their behaviour can be investigated correctly to find out if they are guilty or not. Justice is an important ingredient for our communities to work properly. Black people haven’t always been treated fairly and justice means that they have the right to live safely in our communities, just like everyone else.

Pause in Purpose for Justice

Can you reflect on how good a friend you can be in your community today?
