Fantastic Flowers

This week’s science task is all about flowers. The aim is for you to be able to name the different parts of a flower and explain their role in pollination and fertilisation.

Use this Power Point and the activity sheets to guide you through the lesson:

Science WC 06.07.20

This week you are going to investigate the way in which water is transported within plants by observing the transport of food colouring through a flower stem. This means another experiment! Yes!

Use the Power Point below to guide you through the experiment:

Then use these activity sheets to make your predictions and share your observations:

Here are some example conclusions to help you if needed:

Plants: What do plants need to grow well?

Last week we asked you to investigate what a plant needs in order to live and grow well and now its time to assess what you found out!

You will need to follow this Power Point to help you follow the steps to describe what you found out:

Following that, we have another activity for you.

You have been asked to use your scientific findings to create a TV programme to show people how to look after their plants. Use this activity sheet to plan your thoughts before presenting your findings!

Plants: What do plants need to grow well?

It’s investigation time!

This week we’d like you to investigate what a plant needs in order to live and grow well.

You will need to follow this Power Point to help you complete a fair and accurate investigation at home.

Here are the activity sheets to help you set out your investigation:

At the end you should be able to share with us what a plant needs to grow well!

If you need any extra help then this BBC Bitesize video will come in handy:,their%20own%20food%20through%20photosynthesis.

Plants: Parts of Plants

This week we’d like you to focus on the different parts of a plant. Can you find out what each part does and why a plant needs it?

Use this power point and BBC Bitesize video to see what you can find out:

Then see if you can have a go at these activities:

There is a word mat here to help in case you get stuck:

Living things: Bees

We hope you all enjoyed your bee hunt last week! There’s been some great pictures shared on the blog of some of the bees you’ve found and the trips you’ve been on looking for them!

This week we’d like you to focus on finding out about the different parts that make a bee a bee. You are going create a labelled diagram of the different parts of a bee with captions to describe what each part does.

Use this information to help you:

You can present this however you like but we would suggest printing a picture of a bee (you can use this one if you like!) that you can then label and add captions too.

Science W/C 01.06.2020

Our Science topic for this term is 'Living Things and their Habitats'. You are going to be putting in to practice everything you learnt last half term into our project on bees.

So for your first task you're...Going on a Bee Hunt!

There are lots of different types of Bees so we'd like you to look around your garden, outside areas or local parks searching for bees. Be safe when you are near them but see if you can recognise the different ones.
