VE Day activities

W/C 04/05/2020

On Friday is the 75th anniversary of VE day. VE day will form the focus of English work this week.  If you watch this video, then you will learn about VE day. Please let us know on the class blog how you're getting on and share the work that you have completed.

Task 1

Comprehension about VE day. As well as keeping your skills sharp, this is a great way to make sure that you know about VE day and why it's so important. The link to the comprehension is further down the page.

Task 2 (2 days)

You will need to plan and complete a piece of writing about VE day. You are taking part in the celebrations. You are sending a letter to a member of your family who is not at home (they may be in the Army). You will need to describe what the celebration is like (remember to include sights, sounds and what it feels like to be there). Remember to use adjectives, adverbs and fronted adverbials.

If you need to see what VE day was like, then use google - search for VE day or VE day party and use the image search.

There is a planning frame for you to use further down the page.

Task 3

Winston Churchill - on VE day Winston Churchill gave a famous speech. I would like you all to be Winston Churchill and perform the speech. Please record the speech and post it on the class blog. If you would like to appear in costume then feel free to do it. Try to make it sound like Winston Churchill is talking. If you don't know what he sounds like just search youtube for 'Winston Churchill speech'

The link to the speech is below.
